Sisters!!

“Sisters become more beautiful as each day passes by.”  — Michelle Malm

I am the youngest of 3 children and my sister is the oldest.  There are 6 years (6 years and 20 days to be precise) between us.  Now that doesn’t seem like much but we missed out on lots of sister type things growing up…we never really went to school together, by the time I started high school she was at Uni. In lots of ways we are chalk and cheese.  She has disciplined herself to slow her life down and not live a life of busyness and then there’s me feeling like a can’t fit enough into one day, She is an academic and has a phd, in fact  I remember hearing her reciting rhymes at night to help her study, me, I maybe studied on the bus on the way to school……maybe.  I read recipe books and well she reads real books, lots of them….for fun!!!!  We shared many things in common though, we both played the piano, we both played softball (not much else for a girl to do growing up in Kumbia!), we loved our annual family holiday at Fraser Island (she is a beach worming master!!!), we loved our family, we loved Jesus and we loved each other.

But it hasn’t been until well into my adulthood that I realised just how valuable a sister is.  I feel like this is our time.  I have realised just how much the gift of having a sister is.  I absolutely love the relationship that we have now.  She is my friend, my confidant, my prayer partner, my encourager, my cheerleader.  We have shared the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, all of which was made more bearable having the other beside us to laugh with and to cry with.  We camp together with our respective spouses and enjoy catching yabbies, gazing at stars, sitting beside a camp fire, fine wine and finer cheese, and………tea!
